Stage Manager isn’t there yet

I’ve been playing with iPadOS 17 since the public beta was released by Apple a few days ago.

I think this article by The Verge summarizes the best my own feelings with Stage Manager: it’s a lot better compared to the previous iteration (which was straight up unusable), but Apple is still not there yet. Some limitations are really odds, for instance why can’t you have a given app in two different stages?

I probably won’t use Stage Manager for now, but if it improves, maybe next year!

What’s striking is how quickly I adopted Stage Manager on macOS: I turned the feature on last year when the public betas went out, and I never deactivated it. It’s not perfect on macOS, but it’s quite ironic that a feature first designed for iPadOS and ported to macOS feels more at home on a Mac.

In iPadOS 17, Apple fixed the worst thing about Stage Manager
More app freedom is good! But not good enough.
